Adobe publishes a clear, five-step hiring process and unusually direct guidance on using AI as a candidate. This guide covers what Adobe says about each step, how to prepare for the technical parts of a software engineering loop, and Adobe's values, with original practice questions to finish.

How the process runs

Step through: Adobe's hiring process

Step 1 of 5

1. Profile and application

Create a candidate profile and apply, or set up job alerts. Adobe asks you to tailor your application to the role ("we read every one") and to include a GitHub or portfolio link for technical and creative roles.

Adobe doesn't publish how many interviews step 4 includes or how long they last, and it varies by team and level. Ask your Talent Partner: how many interviews, how long each is, whether coding is live or a take-home, and which language you can use.

AI: what Adobe allows

Adobe is explicit about AI, which many companies aren't:

  • Don't use AI recording, live note-taking (scribing) or conversation-prompting tools during hiring conversations, unless you're invited to.
  • Lead with your own voice. AI can help you clarify, edit and organise your thinking, but Adobe wants to hear your point of view.
  • Adobe tells you when it uses AI in its own hiring, with real people involved throughout.

Which of these fits Adobe's published guidance on AI?

Technical rounds: how to prepare

Adobe names three kinds of technical assessment. Prepare for all three until your Talent Partner tells you which ones you'll get.

Practice questions (original)

These are written in the spirit of Adobe's products (documents, images, creative tools). Try each before opening the hints.

Practice question

Merge highlights in a PDF

easy

Readers highlight text in a document. Each highlight is a (start, end) pair of character positions, inclusive, in any order. Merge overlapping or touching highlights so each highlighted stretch appears once. For example [(3, 7), (1, 4), (10, 12), (12, 15)] becomes [(1, 7), (10, 15)].

Practice question

The paint bucket tool

medium

An image is a grid of colour numbers. Clicking the paint bucket on a pixel recolours that pixel and every pixel connected to it (up, down, left or right) that had the same original colour. Write paint_bucket(image, row, col, new_color) and return the image.

Practice question

Most-used colours

medium

Given an image's pixels as a list of colour names, return the k most common colours, most common first. Break ties alphabetically.

Behavioural interviews and Adobe's values

In 2023 Adobe's CEO set out four values. Prepare a story for each:

ValueWhat Adobe says it meansA story to prepare
Create the futureBeing the customer, and relentless about customer centricityA time you changed a plan because of what users actually needed
Own the outcomeA bias to action; empowerment and impactSomething you drove to done without being asked, and the result
Raise the barContinuous evolution; never satisfied with the status quoA process or system you made measurably better
Be genuineInclusion, respect and opportunity for allA time you made room for a different view, or owned a mistake openly

Use the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) and give numbers in the result where you can. Adobe's talent team also suggests being genuine and curious, preparing a thoughtful answer to "Why Adobe?", testing your video setup beforehand and sending a short follow-up note.

A 4-week prep plan

Step through: Four weeks to interview-ready

Step 1 of 4

Week 1: Coding foundations

Arrays, strings, hash maps, sorting, two pointers. Solve two problems a day out loud, then state complexity.

Keep going
